Due to Andreas Christensen’s injury, the Spanish international could not register with La Liga until December 31st.
Although efforts are being made to have him registered for the rest of the season, Barça seems to be quite concerned.
If the club is unable to re-register Olmo during the winter transfer window or any subsequent transfer windows until his contract ends in 2030, he will become a free agent.
A clause that was inserted to the contract in August specifies this. The Spaniard agreed to just be registered for one season when he joined Barcelona.
Players typically sign for the rest of their contract, but the 26-year-old consented to be registered for just his first season due to the club’s present financial circumstances.
Barcelona needed to make room for Fair Play, but they had not received the funds to make up the difference at Barça Studios. There weren’t enough departures or other sources of revenue.
The agreement between Barcelona and Olmo had to be revised as a result. The attacking midfielder’s contract was amended to include a new provision in August, reports Barca Universal.
Olmo consented to play for just six months, but there was a catch: he could leave the Catalans and sign with another team for nothing if he wasn’t registered during any of the next transfer windows.
