Barcelona make contact with Insigne but face competition from Tottenham

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis faces a battle to keep hold of Euro 2020 star Lorenzo Insigne, with Barcelona and Tottenham circling as a contract stand-off looms.

Insigne has been a key cog in Roberto Mancini’s Azzurri machine this summer, scoring the crucial goal against Belgium to setup a semi-final spot for Italy.

The Napoli skipper has spent his entire career with the iconic club, but with only a year left on his deal, the winger reportedly desires an improvement on his £4.3m-a-year deal in exchange for his long-term future.

If Napoli can’t stump-up the cash Insigne has options elsewhere, with Corriere dello Sport reporting that Barcelona and Spurs have made contact with the player’s agent.

Insigne’s performances this summer have delighted Laurentiis, who’ll be excited to see the creative wide-man return to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium next season.

‘He scored a fantastic goal against Belgium, he was always focused and very efficient,’ he told the Rome paper.

Nuno Espirito Santo is looking to build his squad at Spurs after Daniel Levy finally scored the north Londoners a new manager, and Insigne could be an experienced attacking addition.

Meanwhile it’s now or never for Ronald Koeman at Barcelona, who needs a strong second season at the Nou Camp to keep his job.

The Catalans are on the lookout for bargains with the cash-strapped giants swooping for free-agents as they pool enough cash to off Lionel Messi a new deal, after the Argentine became a free agent.
