Barcelona plan to plunder Man United for £12m-rated defender

La Liga champions Barcelona are eyeing a £12m move for Marcos Rojo amid suggestions that the defender has been deemed surplus to requirements at Manchester United, according to reports from Sport.

The Argentina international only joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2014 as Louis van Gaal set about a defensive re-shuffle at Old Trafford.

Despite arriving from Sporting CP with a stellar reputation having just helped his nation to the World Cup Final in Brazil, Rojo has largely struggled in Manchester, often finding himself shifted between playing left-back, left wing-back and centre-back with injury issues having stretched LVG’s resources.

Recent rumours have suggested that the club have grown frustrated with Rojo and are indeed willing to offload him, and now reports claim that Barcelona are considering a £12m offer.

Should the 26-year-old move to the Nou Camp he would reunite with compatriots Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano, while his technically adept, attack-minded approach may be more suited to the Catalans’ set-up.
