Barcelona Poised For Minor Financial Boost From A Deal In Italian Second Division

Barcelona could soon benefit from a slight cash boost, as one of their former players, Estanis Pedrola, is expected to leave in January, according to SPORT.

The 21-year-old forward, who currently plays for Sampdoria in Serie B, has had a difficult time in Italy, with reports pointing to a possible departure during the winter transfer window.

Pedrola’s problems originate from a hamstring injury recurrence in May. He returned to action at the end of October following surgery, but has yet to make the impact he had hoped for.

His playing time has been limited, with only two starts in Sampdoria’s last 11 matches, and two more as a substitute. In total, he has played in eight league games this season without contributing a goal or an assist.

Sampdoria’s management is expected to restructure their squad in January, potentially benefiting Barcelona. When Pedrola left for Sampdoria, the Catalan club received €3 million and retained 50% of any future sale. If the Italian side sells him this winter, Barça will receive a portion of the transfer fee.

Pedrola joined Sampdoria on loan in 2023 before signing a permanent contract with the Italian club. Although Barcelona has a €7 million buyback provision for the forward, it will only be exercised in 2025.

Barcelona still has control.

For the time being, Barça will hope that any trade involving Pedrola will result in an immediate financial benefit.

Pedrola, who is currently valued at €1.8 million, had remarkable promise while in Barcelona’s junior system.

However, injuries have slowed his progress, but with the appropriate conditions and continuous playing time, he has the potential to reach the levels that many had predicted.

For Barcelona, his next move might provide much-needed financial respite while also offering hope for a career resurrection.
