Barcelona President Joan Laporta Reveals The Club Are Still Paying Lionel Messi

According to Barcelona president Joan Laporta, the club will continue paying ‘outstanding payments’ to Lionel Messi until 2025.

Messi departed Barcelona in 2021 to sign with Paris Saint-Germain after spending the great portion of his brilliant career in Spain. However, according to Laporta, Barcelona still owe the Argentina star the deferral of the wage bill that was agreed upon with the previous board.

After making his debut with Barcelona in 2004, Messi went on to play 778 times and scored an incredible 672 goals, solidifying his place among the all-time greats.

Due to the club’s financial issues, contract negotiations with Barcelona in 2021 proved to be challenging.

Laporta said: ‘We have outstanding payments to Messi until 2025. What is owed to him is the deferral of the wage bill that was agreed with the previous board and that produces outstanding payments that end in 2025.

‘He is paid religiously.’

While at Barcelona Messi won an array of trophies including four Champions Leagues, ten LaLiga titles and seven Copa Del Reys.

During his time at PSG, he scored 32 goals in 75 games and won two Ligue 1 titles.

The 36-year-old is now set to be on the move again as he prepares to join Inter Miami.

Messi received a lucrative proposal from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, who reportedly offered him €400m (£345m) per season.

However, he will instead head to MLS to play for Inter Miami, who are co-owned by David Beckham.

Meanwhile, Messi’s former Barcelona team-mate Sergio Busquets has also signed for Inter Miami.

They could be joined by former Barcelona stars, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez.
