Barcelona Reach Agreement For Jules Kounde In €50m Deal As They Beat Chelsea To Sevilla Defender

Barcelona is set to Sign defender Jules Kounde From Sevilla after agreeing a base €50m fee with add-ons. He’s expected to sign a four-year contract that would last until 2026.

Chelsea have been interested in signing Kounde since last summer, but he wanted a move to Camp Nou.

Xavi particularly urged that Barcelona pursue Kounde in order to strengthen a defence that has already signed Blues defender Andreas Christensen on a free transfer.

What Is Kounde’s Total Transfer Fee?

As per GOAL, there will be between €5m and €10m in add-ons on top of the initial €50m fee.

The 23-year-old, who can play both centre-back and right-back, is Sevilla’s most expensive transfer. Bordeaux, on the other hand, will receive a sell-on sum of roughly €8 million.

Why Didn’t Kounde Sign With Chelsea?

Chelsea came close to signing Kounde last summer, but Sevilla ultimately decided not to sell him. The extended time he spent on the market made way for Barcelona, where the defender had always intended to play.

Chelsea Suffer Jules Kounde Setback

Chelsea had already completed a £55m deal for Jules Kounde, putting an end to their year-long pursuit of the defender.

However, Spanish club Barcelona moved to hijack the deal, forcing Thomas Tuchel to explore elsewhere for an option.

In the post-Abramovich era, Chelsea have struggled to convince players to move to the Bridge this summer.

The Blues have seen bids for former Leeds winger Raphinha hijacked by Barcelona, and now they appear to be losing their long-term target Kounde to the Catalans as well, following the summer transfers of Robert Lewandowski and Andreas Christensen to Barca.
