Barcelona Reach Contract Agreement With Defender, €100M Clause Included

Barcelona have reportedly reached a new contract agreement with Gerard Martin with deal set to expire in the 2028.

Unlike several of his teammates, the 22-year-old left-back, whose contract expires in 2025, is not dealing with the same uncertainty.

The contracts of four Barcelona players currently expire in 2025; Robert Lewandowski, Inigo Martinez, and Martin have their future secured, goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny’s future is still up in the air.

All four instances are being handled by the club’s sporting management. And Barcelona have everything under control even though no formal announcements have been made.

While talks are still going on with the other players, two of them have contracts that automatically renew based on how many games they play.

The circumstances are simpler in Martin’s instance. The 22-year-old has gained manager Hansi Flick’s trust after establishing himself as a vital member of the first team.

According to Barca Universal, the player and Barcelona have come to an arrangement that has not yet been disclosed to the public. Martin is reportedly going to extend his contract through June 30, 2028.

To further ensure the long-term protection of the young talent, the club will also insert a €100 million release clause.

Barcelona’s choice to sign Martin for the upcoming years demonstrates their dedication to his growth. Even though the left-back hasn’t always played at his best, he is still a vital component of Hansi Flick’s future plans.
