Barcelona Send Warning Message To Chelsea Over Williams Transfer Approach

Barcelona president, Joan Laporta has reportedly claimed that the club have the resources to finance the deal of Athletic Club winger, Nico Williams this summer.

With five goals and eleven assists in La Liga last season, the 21-year-old was one of Bilbao’s best players.

Additionally, he has been a vital member of Spain’s squad at Euro 2024 as La Roja gets ready to take on France in their semifinal match on Tuesday night.

Several clubs are interested in signing Williams during the summer transfer window. Arsenal, Chelsea, and Barcelona are all in talks to sign him.

The €55 million (£46.5 million) release clause in the winger’s contract has also eased his availability.

Due to their financial difficulties, Barcelona are unable to invest in new players, which seems to have given Arsenal and Chelsea an advantage in the competition to sign Williams.

According to The Metro, Laporta, nevertheless, is certain that Barca will have enough to sign Williams in the current transfer window.

‘Economically speaking, we could commit to the signing of Nico Williams,’ Laporta said on El mati de Catalunya Radio.

‘Nico’s a player I like, I like him a lot. We are working with [Hansi] Flick on possible signings. Now we have to leave Deco to close the operations we are working on.

‘Shortly we will be able to announce some good news with regard to the financial [issues] and we will be back within La Liga’s Fair Play limits. And that will allow further good news in terms of [transfers].’
