Barcelona Star Set To Undergo Surgery On Recent Injury

Barcelona defender, Ronald Araujo was a victim of a thigh injury during Uruguay’s quarter-final clash against Brazil in the 2024 Copa America.

The 25-year-old is obviously one of the stars for Marcelo Bielsa’s side going into the tournament in the United States. But an injury derailed him from helping his team further in the competition. And now, Barcelona are reportedly set to also suffer from his absence.

According to SPORT as reported by Barca News Network, the Uruguayan will have surgery in order to heal from this problem though he is yet to make a choice on this matter.

Araujo will weigh the advantages and disadvantages of the various recovery options open to him. But he will have to spend the next four months on the treatment table as it is now likely surgery is the ideal option.

During the encounter, against Brazil, the defender sustained a puncture in his left thigh. Initial tests indicated that he would require six to eight weeks to recover.

However, the first examination did not pinpoint the precise location of the injury. And subsequent testing has only indicated that the issue is more serious than first thought.

Araujo arrived back in Barcelona on Monday, and more tests in Spain will eliminate any uncertainty over his recovery process.

Surgery is now said to be recommended to prevent future relapses as it is thought that a conservative course of treatment would not be sufficient to heal the injury.

However, surgery would keep the star defender out of action for four months, which would be devastating for the player and the Catalan outfit.
