Barcelona are searching for a new pivot midfielder to take the position of departing captain Sergio Busquets at the end of the current campaign.
And recent rumours have indicated that the La Liga winners intend to make a move for Bayern Munich and Germany midfield maestro Joshua Kimmich.
The 28-year-old is rumored to be unhappy at the Allianz Arena and open to leaving in the summer, which has caught the attention of Barça, who are highly interested in signing him.
Now. according to Kerry Hau of SPORT1, Kimmich is now a target for Real Madrid as well as Barcelona during the summer transfer season. The journalist also notes that the two La Liga heavyweights’ interest in the German international is nothing new.
However, as things stand, Kimmich is a part of Bayern Munich’s future plans, and they do not currently have any plans to sell him.
In fact, the article goes as far as to say that once Thomas Muller and Manuel Neuer depart, the midfielder will take over as the team’s first captain.
Kimmich’s current contract with the Bavarian giants expires in 2025.
That, coupled with the midfielder’s alleged unhappiness, has given way to speculations about his future.
Will Barcelona Sign Joshua Kimmich?
Barcelona are in desperate need of a new holding midfielder now that Busquets has announced his desire to leave at the end of his contract on June 30.
Kimmich is a player that is well-liked within the Barça offices.
In fact, back in 2021, before he took over as the manager of Barcelona, Xavi had said that the German international would be perfect for the club.
“Since I saw you play I knew you could be a great player and now you are. You can really play in any position. You would be a perfect player for Barcelona, as Lahm would have been,” he had said via Mundo Deportivo).

Interestingly, the Bayern star has also revealed on a number of occasions that Xavi Hernandez was his role model growing up.
However, with Real Madrid also in the equation, things could get tricky.
On top of that, as things stand, Bayern Munich have no interest whatsoever in selling their midfield asset.
