Barcelona ‘Very Close’ To Making Key Signing

FC Barcelona is “very close” to signing a major player, according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources.

Joao Cancelo signed on loan with Barcelona on the last day of the summer transfer window in 2023.

His stint was mainly successful, with the exception of costly blunders in major games like as the Champions League quarterfinal second leg loss to Paris Saint-Germain, and the club bid farewell to Cancelo and his fellow Jorge Mendes client Joao Felix when their temporary contracts expired on June 30.

Still, it is widely known that President Joan Laporta, who has a close relationship with Mendes, wishes to make the Portuguese combo permanent Blaugrana stars.

According to SPORT, Barcelona and City have bargained in the United States, where they are presently doing preseason tours.

The two teams met on the pitch in Orlando on Tuesday evening, drawing 2-2 before Barcelona won a penalty shootout.

According to Cancelo, higher-level European heavyweights have also met at the negotiating table.

According to reports, Barca has presented a new loan offer of $7.6 million (€7 million) with an obligatory $27 million (€25 million) buy option in June 2025.

SPORT says that Cancelo has “put a lot of effort into returning” to Barca and will adjust his salary to pen a four-year contract when he is bought outright.
