Despite Raphinha’s outstanding performance, Barcelona continues to prioritize the left-wing position in the trade market. They still have Athletic Club winger Nico Williams at the top of their shortlist.
Williams, 22, was the target of a lengthy pursuit by Barcelona last summer, which ended when the Basque winger decided to stay in Bilbao. The Blaugrana could not guarantee his immediate registration at the moment. Sport reports that Barcelona will make a bid for him next summer, but only if he offers a strong indication of his desire to join the Catalan giants first.
Otherwise, they will not do anything. Williams has Athletic attempting to prolong his contract and increase his release clause (€60 million as of last summer), with a number of other teams also attempting to entice him. Barcelona has identified Napoli winger Khvicha Kvararatskhelia and AC Milan’s Rafael Leao as potential candidates.

Williams may not be significantly less expensive than Kvaratskhelia in terms of salary, but he will almost certainly be more expensive than Leao, with the Rossoneri wanting €150 million last summer. Williams, meanwhile, already has a relationship with some Barcelona players from Spain assignment and is three years younger than Leao and one year younger than the Georgian.
