Barcelona Win Legal Case Against LaLiga Over Gavi Contract

Barcelona filed a lawsuit against La Liga in a commercial court on Friday after the league rejected their request to add Gavi to the first team due to their “expected” summer financial shortfall.

According to La Vanguardia, the decision has been made and the judge has sided with Barcelona. The commercial court has ordered La Liga to register Gavi’s new contract with the senior team.

Javier Tebas, president of La Liga, supported his position by stating that Barcelona’s expected loss for the upcoming season will exceed €200m. According to him, this is against the financial fair play rules.

Barcelona have been in a tussle with La Liga for nearly two years now, trying to find their ways around the league’s outdated FFP rules.

They decided to go to court to find a legal loophole to help their situation and found the judge in favour of them.

The judge’s ruling is, however, subject to an appeal from La Liga, and could further delay the entire process for Barcelona.

At 18, Gavi is already one of the most important players for Barcelona. He has played 18 games in La Liga, starting 13 of them. During this time, he has assisted two goals.

He was also the man of the match against Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final, scoring one goal and assisting two.

Gavi’s new contract will likely include a €1bn release clause, the same which has been handed to the likes of Pedri, Ronald Araujo, and Ansu Fati.
