Barcelona sporting director Deco has stated unequivocally that he has no regrets about how Xavi exit from the club occurred last year.
One of the most difficult issues he has had since becoming sporting director has been navigating a management transition.
While he did not make the choice to part ways with Xavi on his own, he worked closely with the club’s sporting commission and president Joan Laporta.
It should be mentioned that Xavi initially declared his resignation at the end of January, following a crushing defeat to Villarreal.
However, rather of departing immediately, it was agreed that he would stay until the end of the season.

This extended departure sparked enormous speculation and controversy about the club’s future direction. Eventually, Barcelona decided to bring in Hansi Flick to replace him.
Deco has said that letting go of Xavi was a difficult decision, particularly given his services to the club. He arrived during a difficult period and even won the league championship.
“Xavi’s departure was not easy at all because he had won a league, he had entered a difficult moment for the club accepting the challenge, but last season was hard in every way and that’s why we decided that the best thing was a change on the bench,” the Uruguayan told SPORT.
Despite the obstacles, Deco stands by his decision, claiming that he always shares his ideas honestly and is steadfast in his beliefs.
“I don’t regret anything because I always go face-to-face, I always say what I believe, and I think at that moment. Xavi will always be a friend and an important person for me.”
