Ashley Barnes feels it is vital Burnley back up their win over West Ham by seeing off Watford in the next round of Premier League fixtures. Barnes opened the scoring on Saturday and fellow forward Chris Wood was also on target before an own goal from Roberto Jimenez completed a 3-0 win for Burnley over a disappointing Hammers outfit.
That victory ended a run of three straight defeats for the Clarets, and Barnes felt it was important they got back to winning ways prior to the international break.
Burnley head to Watford on November 23 in their next Premier League outing and Barnes hopes they can make it two wins in a row at Vicarage Road. “It was huge, we needed that, obviously coming off the back of not winning in three that was a massive turning point,” he told the Burnley Express.
Barnes says his side will be “raring to go” when they head to the Hornets, who are 17th in the table, and he will be keen to start a scoring run after ending a goal drought.
The 30-year-old forward managed four goals in his first three appearances of the season but then failed to score in his next seven outings across all competitions.
Barnes has five goals in 11 Premier League appearances this season and will be looking to better his impressive tally of 12 from last year.
Earlier this month, Barnes, who has 42 goals in 190 appearances in total for the Clarets, extended his deal at Turf Moor until the summer of 2022 and revealed he would “like to see out” his playing days with Burnley.
Barnes joined the club from Brighton in January 2014 and has gone on to be a key man under Sean Dyche.
Burnley are 10th in the Premier League after picking up 15 points from their first 12 games.
