Bayern Munich have reportedly identified Max Allegri as the man they want to take over from Niko Kovac if they decide to part company.
Bayern suffered a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday as Kovac suffered ignominy at the hands of his former employers.
Jerome Boateng was sent off early on in the contest before the hosts raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Filip Kostic and Djibril Sow.
Robert Lewandowski’s penalty halved the arrears just before the break but the Pole’s goal would only prove to be a false dawn.
In the second half, defender David Abraham made the score 3-1 before defensive partner Martin Hinteregger added a fourth.
The rout was completed by Goncalo Paciencia to heap more pressure on the beleaguered Bayern boss.
The defeat leaves Bayern fourth in the Bundesliga table after ten games, where they are four points adrift of surprise leaders Borussia Monchengladbach.
Some reports have suggested Kovac will keep his job in order to take charge of next weekend’s huge crunch clash with title rivals Borussia Dortmund.
However, fresh reports have suggested Bayern are already looking for alternatives should their season rapidly fall apart.
At the top of the list is former Juventus boss Allegri, who is currently taking time out of the game following his hugely successful stint in Turin.
It is understood Bayern are due to undergo talks with Allegri, and that process will speed up if Bayern lose the Dortmund clash as well their Champions League game at home against Greek outfit Olympiakos.
Allegri was thought to have favoured a move to the Premier League but an attractive offer from Bayern may be enough to turn his head.
