Bayern monitoring Gnabry just months after he left Arsenal

Bayern Munich are closely monitoring Serge Gnabry, a player Arsene Wenger did not want to sell last summer.

The attacking midfielder has scored seven Bundesliga goals for Werder Bremen since leaving Arsenal for £4.5million and netted a hat‑trick on his full Germany debut in an 8-0 win against San Marino in November.

Reports in Germany indicated that the 21‑year-old’s contract, which runs until 2020, could allow him to leave for around £7m this summer. Bremen have refused to comment but Bayern’s executive board chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, confirmed that the German champions are keeping an eye on Gnabry’s progress.

“Gnabry is a Bremen player and I don’t want to cause any problems for them,” he said. “But, of course, we’ll always watch Germany internationals. I don’t know if we’ll do anything with it, because with Arjen Robben’s contract extension we’re well covered out wide for next season.”

When Gnabry left Arsenal, Wenger said: “We wanted to keep him.”
