Bayern Munich have ruled out the possibility of bringing in a replacement for Niklas Sule, who will not play again this season. The central defender has been a rock at the back for Bayern, but they will have soldier on without him for the rest of the campaign after he suffered a serious knee ligament injury at the weekend.
Sule ruptured his ACL during the 2-2 draw with Augsburg and will not only miss the rest of the Bundesliga season, but also the European Championship with Germany next summer as well.
It obviously means that Bayern are a central defender short and there had been suggestions they would draft in a replacement when the transfer window re-opens in the new year.
However, that will not be the case as it seems boss Niko Kovac will go with what he has got for the rest of the season. “This is a total disaster. A drama. As it looks like the season is over. He can forget the Euros,” president Uli Hoeness said. “We will not bring anyone in.”
Kovac does have options and Jerome Boateng could come in from the cold after appearing to have no future with the Bavarians.
He has been linked with a move away on numerous occasions although he could now have a role to play.
There is also the possibility of slotting Joshua Kimmich back into defence. The Germany international has been playing as a defensive midfielder, but could now play alongside new boy Lucas Hernandez in the heart of the defence.
