England icon, David Beckham has sent a touching message to Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire following his own goal in England’s victory over Scotland on Tuesday.
When Maguire came off the bench to play in the second half, fans at Hampden Park booed him. His struggles only became worse when he unintentionally turned Andy Robertson’s cross into his own net at the near post.
Since Erik ten Hag became United’s manager, the 30-year-old centre back has experienced a challenging time in his professional career.
The majority of his time has been spent on the bench, where he has endured harassment on social media and severe comments from members of the media.
Beckham, a former winger for the Red Devils and England, decided to text Maguire on Tuesday.
According to Mirror Football, he commended Maguire for how he had behaved himself amid his recent problems and encouraged him to shun the trolls.
A source told The Sun: “Becks told Harry to keep his head up. He knows what it’s like to be targeted. He got through it and is certain Harry can do the same. Getting a message from someone like Becks meant the world to Harry.”
Beckham’s remarks complemented those made publicly by the Three Lions head coach, Gareth Southgate. He criticized the “ridiculous treatment” the defender has received.

“I have never known a player to be treated the way he is – not from the Scottish fans but by our own commentators, pundits, whatever it is,” he said.
The messages sent by his manager and the Inter Miami president will most likely inspire Maguire, who will hope to bounce back from his underwhelming performances which began last season.
