Asmir Begovic feels he does not deserve a Premier League winners’ medal after making just two appearances for Chelsea this season.
Premier League rules state a player must feature five times during the 38-game campaign to be guaranteed a medal, though back-up goalkeepers are given special dispensation.
Begovic has made just two appearances, Monday’s 4-3 win over Watford his second, while the likes of Nathan Ake, Kenedy and Ola Aina – all who also featured against the Hornets, will go without.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be given a winners’ medal having made six substitute appearances, totalling 31 minutes of first-team action.
The goalkeeper is grateful to be afforded a medal, and notes how every player plays a role, but feels five appearances isn’t enough to warrant the memento.
“I think the rule should be changed, I don’t know about the whole five appearances,” he told the Daily Mail.
“Having been part of the group all year, we’ve all sacrificed, played our part in the team each and every day.
“But they really have to look at that rule again because I don’t think five appearances should warrant a medal.
“It’s the rule for now, thankfully I get one and obviously to have that in your career is great.”
