Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has been ruled out for four weeks and could now miss up to eight games as a result.
The highly-rated right-back picked up the knock in the north London derby prior to the international break, which meant he had to withdraw from the Spain U21 squad that he was initially included in.
Bellerin now faces missing out on games against Manchester United (A), PSG (H), Bournemouth (H), Southampton (H), West Ham (A), Basel (A), Stoke (H) and Everton (A) – potentially returning for Manchester City (A) on the 18th December.
The former Barcelona defender was thought to have a minor problem, but the ankle injury he picked up that day in the 1-1 draw at the Emirates will keep him sidelined for some time.
Arsene Wenger confirmed the extent of the injury at his pre-match press conference on Thursday and revealed how it happened late on in a tackle with Danny Rose.
“Hector [Bellerin] is out for about four weeks,” Wenger told reporters. “He was injured in the last 10 seconds against Spurs from a very strong tackle from Danny Rose.”
Bellerin’s absence will be a huge blow to Arsenal and it means he will have to sit out some very tough games which are coming up leading up to Christmas.
