Bennett admits England doubts

England boss Wayne Bennett has cast doubt over whether he will continue in the role beyond his current contract. No firm decision has been made on the Australian’s future, with his current contract coming to an end next week. Bennett says he doesn’t know what will happen over any potential new deal from the England hierarchy and says the call is out of his hands. “That’s the decision they’ve got to make,” he told reporters. “My contract finishes next week, so we’ll see what they want to do.” The comments come after Bennett saw his Great Britain side suffer a third consecutive defeat, with the Lions going down 23-8 to New Zealand on Saturday in Christchurch. Bennett admitted he had no complaints about the result and feels the better side were the victors on the day. “They played much better than we did, that’s probably the best way to sum it up,” he added. “We could look for a thousand excuses but that’s the reality. “We didn’t get off the right foot against Tonga two weeks ago and we just haven’t picked up since the last time we played.”
