Karim Benzema has officially signed a new deal with Real Madrid that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2021.
On Thursday, Madrid’s official Instagram account posted a photo of Benzema posing alongside president Florentino Perez, while holding up the club’s home shirt with his name and ‘2021’ printed on the back.
Benzema, who has scored more than 170 goals for Madrid since joining from Lyon back in 2009, has signed a new contract worth a reported €7.5million (£6.6m) a year.
And according to reports in Spain, the French forward is subject to a staggering €1billion (£881m) release clause.
Benzema, who has won 14 trophies during his time in Madrid, will now remain at the La Liga and European giants beyond his 33rd birthday.
The striker’s contract extension will come as good news to Madrid following their disappointing start to the new La Liga campaign.
Zinedine Zidane’s side currently sit seven points behind leaders Barcelona already after just five matches.
Madrid were defeated 1-0 by Real Betis on Wednesday night at the Bernabeu, meaning they have failed to win any of their opening three home league games.
