Former Real Madrid star, Karim Benzema is the latest figure to get in behind Vinicius Jr after missing out on the Ballon d’Or to Manchester City midfielder, Rodri.
Following the late discovery on Monday that Rodri is going to lift football’s most coveted individual trophy, everyone at Real Madrid, including the players, manager, and president Florentino Perez, boycotted the event.
Carlo Ancelotti, alongside Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Eder Militao took to social media to vent their frustration. Former Madrid striker Karim Benzema has also joined in on the act.
After leading Los Blancos to the UEFA Champions League and La Liga glory, Benzema won the 2022 Ballon d’Or. He departed the team last summer following 14 trophy-filled years in the Spanish capital.
According to Football365, on this year’s debacle, the Frenchman said: “I spoke to Vini, he’s sad… it’s also normal. He deserved to win the Ballon d’Or.”
Benzema continued: “I’ve nothing against Rodri, good player… but I’m in my sofa watching TV and Rodri doesn’t do anything that makes you say: wow!”
Since City revealed that the Spanish midfielder would miss the remainder of the season due to an anterior cruciate ligament rupture, Pep Guardiola has been having sleepless nights.

In addition to winning the Euros with Spain in Germany in the summer, Rodri was a key player in City’s fourth consecutive Premier League title last season.
Vinicius is without a doubt one of the most impressive players in the world, and you would pay to watch him. Recall his two goals against Borussia Dortmund last week in the Champions League.
