Karim Benzema has returned to Real Madrid for treatment on his ongoing issues with muscle injuries.
Due to muscular problems, Benzema was unable to play in Al Ittihad’s 3-1 loss to Al Shabab last week. This is not the first time he has missed games in his first season in Saudi Arabia.
In an attempt to shed light on his injury problems, Al Ittihad revealed that an agreement had been reached for Benzema to see Madrid’s medical staff in order to receive a professional assessment.
“Karim Benzema is undergoing further examinations in Real Madrid’s clinic with his former doctor in Spain, who supervised his care in previous years,” Al Ittihad said in a statement as quoted by 90min.
“The consultations were arranged between Ittihad’s medical teams and Real Madrid regarding Benzema’s injuries, which caused him to miss key matches this season. Benzema has already left for Spain and is expected to return next week.”
In addition to dealing with injuries, Benzema’s first season at Al Ittihad has been marred by transfer rumors.
Benzema was strongly linked to a move back to Europe during the January transfer window. This is due to rumors of a falling out with Al Ittihad manager Marcelo Gallardo. Nevertheless, the Frenchman has stated in the open that he is still content in Saudi Arabia.
