Beterbiev unifies light heavyweight division

Artur Beterbiev has unified the light heavyweight division courtesy of a 10th-round stoppage of Oleksandr Gvozdyk. The 34-year-old was far too good for his Ukrainian opponent in Philadelphia and the fight was eventually called in the 10th after Gvozdyk had been floored three times. He was trailing on two of the judges’ scorecards before a late showing saw him add the WBC belt to his IBF title. Beterbiev is now unbeaten in 15 professional fights and will go up against the undefeated Meng Fanlong in his next bout. The Russian’s team will now enter into talks with Fanlong’s camp to arrange a date and he insists he isn’t fazed by any opponent. Beterbiev said: “It doesn’t matter. Anyone. I’m focused on the title, not on the name.”
