Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto says his team’s lack of reliability is becoming a worrying trend. It has been a very difficult season for the Scuderia mechanically, stemming all the way back to the Bahrain Grand Prix when Charles Leclerc was denied his first win in the sport because of an engine problem. Power unit failures also dogged the Italian giants in Austria, Germany and Russia, and despite showing some very promising pace in pre-season testing, they have finished well adrift of main rivals Mercedes, both in the drivers and constructors’ championships. And, their problems have been compounded this week by the news that Charles Leclerc faces a 10 place grid penalty at the upcoming Brazilian Grand Prix due to needing a new engine in his car. Binotto, speaking ahead of the Interlagos race on Sunday, says it is becoming a big problem for the team. “We had Bahrain with Charles, we had problems in qualy in Austria with Sebastian [Vettel], then qualy both cars in Germany, then we had the problem in Sochi,” Binotto said to Motorsport.com. “All of them, each single one, all different. It’s not a single factor or commonality, which is even more worrying. “Because if you’ve got one single problem you may address it. The fact we’ve got different problems is showing our entire process is not strong enough towards reliability.”
