Blades boss Wilder in surprise Rodwell deal link

Former Everton and Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell could be given a surprise route back to the Premier League with Sheffield United. The 28-year-old has been without a club since being released by English Championship side Blackburn Rovers in the summer.
Rodwell had looked like he would be handed a deal with Italian Serie A side Roma after he spent time training with the club last month.
However, a move fell through and that has left the former England international reassessing his options.
Rodwell has remained in Italy and Parma were being tipped to sign him on a free transfer, but it now looks like he could be lured back to England.
Blades boss Chris Wilder is believed to targeting another right-sided central defender and Rodwell has experience in that role, having played there for both Everton and England at youth level earlier in his professional career.
If he wants to take him to Bramall Lane, the 52-year-old will have to move swiftly with some reports suggesting that Parma are close to finalising a swoop.
It would be something of a shock if Rodwell does move to the Blades given that his career took a huge downturn after he moved to Sunderland from City in a £10million deal in summer 2014.
He left the Black Cats in summer 2018 having made only three appearances in all competitions in the 2017-18 campaign when the side was relegated to League One.
An attempt to resurrect his career at Blackburn failed to materialise as he was allowed to depart in the summer after making 23 outings last term.
However, Wilder is no stranger at giving former good prospects an opportunity to resurrect their career having signed former Manchester United and West Ham starlet Ravel Morrison.
The 26-year-old penned a one-year deal in the summer but has so far struggle to make an impact for the Blades.
