Ligue 1’s runaway leaders, Paris Saint-Germain, have announced that Laurent Blanc has signed a two-year extension to his current contract.
PSG have won the Ligue 1 title for the last three seasons and as they currently sit 24 points clear after just 25 matches, it is pretty clear that they’re about to make it a fourth year in a row.
Blanc has been at the helm for most of this success, too, having taken over in 2013 from Carlo Ancelotti, just after their first title win following their huge new influx of money from Qatari investors, and the club has revealed that he is set for a longer stay.
The former French international defender has done extremely well with PSG, and having dominated domestically for years now, it is time for him to take a crack at the Champions League.
They have made improvements in the past couple of years, reaching the quarter-finals last season, but they ended up losing to the eventual winners Barcelona, who were far too good for them over two legs.
Blanc’s position as manager has been under pressure in the past 12 months despite his incredible success. Big names like Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho have been linked with his job.
However, with the former having already agreed to join Manchester City and the latter rumoured to be joining Manchester United, PSG have done the sensible thing and rewarded Blanc for his success with a new deal.
