Bottas plans title challenge in 2020

Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas believes he will be able to mount a sustained title bid next season. Bottas failed to win a race last season and has improved this term with four victories, although he was unable to really challenge team-mate Lewis Hamilton for the Drivers’ Championship as the Briton secured his sixth title with two races to spare. The Finn will stick with the Silver Arrows in 2020 and Bottas hopes his experiences from the current season will see him improve next term. Bottas has managed two wins in the last three races and he is keen to finish the campaign strongly in order to build momentum going into 2020. “I’ve not been able to be at my very, very best every single race, but much more often than ever before, so the direction is clear for me in terms of my development overall,” he told Motorsport Week. “It’s a good momentum now and in terms of race pace, which has been my weakness in the years before, I’ve made huge gains by working really hard with the engineers, you know, every single detail of my driving and set-up. “It [the improvements] gives me really confidence for next year and, unlike at the end of last year, now I really look forward to the year ahead. “I’m already excited to start the next season and start from fresh. So that’s going to be good fun.”
