Brandt at the double to send Dortmund through

Julian Brandt was the hero for Borussia Dortmund as they came from behind to beat Borussia Monchengladbach in the DFB-Pokal. BVB looked to be heading out of the German cup at the second round stage after Marcus Thuram had given the Bundesliga leaders the lead on 71 minutes.
However, Dortmund were not done and Brandt levelled matters with a deflected shot six minutes later, before heading home the winner when left unmarked in the box in the 80th minute. “I think we did well in the end,” Brandt said. “We endured phases where we were a little bit sloppy. We conceded the goal in such a phase. “So much has already happened in this stadium, and everyone is aware of the fact that you can turn a game around here. We just have to build up our self-confidence with more successes, especially with a few turbulent weeks behind us. “Wins like this today, where you simply have to pull yourself together, do us good. We have to continue working on this to get our self-belief back again.”
Following a poor run of results in the league, the win also eased some of the pressure on under-fire boss Lucien Favre, who was relieved to get the win. “The players performed very, very well,” he added. “We turned the game around, that was important because we absolutely wanted to qualify for the round of 16. We managed to do that. “It was clear that it would be a tough game: we were playing against the league leaders who are a very good team. Our performance was okay, but we also have a few details to improve on.”
