Brazil Legend Pele Shows ‘Progressive Improvement’ In Hospital

Brazil football legend Pele is reportedly showing signs of “progressive improvement” in hospital according to his doctors at the hospital in Sao Paulo.

The 82-year-old was taken to the hospital last week, with a previous report stating that he had been moved to end-of-life care after his chemotherapy treatment for colon cancer had been discontinued.

It has since been revealed that Pele is being treated for a coronavirus-exacerbated respiratory infection.

Despite initial concerns regarding Pele’s health, doctors issued an encouraging update on Saturday, stating that the Brazilian is responding well to treatment.

A statement on Pele’s official Instagram account read: “I want to keep everyone calm and positive. I’m strong, with a lot of hope and I follow my treatment as usual.

“I want to thank the entire medical and nursing team for all the care I have received. I have a lot of faith in God and every message of love I receive from you all over the world keeps me full of energy. And watch Brazil in the World Cup, too.”

Pele’s doctors have since provided an update on his health, stating on Tuesday that he is showing “progressive improvement” in his recovery.

A statement read: “The patient continues to show progressive improvement in his general condition, in particular the respiratory infection.

“He remains in a standard room, with stable vital signs, conscious and with no new complications.”

Pele has received global support while he recovers in hospital, with players such as Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe, and Rivaldo openly wishing him well.

Meanwhile, Brazil paid tribute to their all-time leading scorer with banners before and after their 4-1 victory against South Korea in the 2022 World Cup’s last 16 on Monday.
