Orion Futebol Clube in Brazil have signed a Brazilian footballer who was charged with plotting the murder of his mistress.
The 38-year-old goalkeeper was given a 22-year prison term, but in January he was granted parole, and he hasn’t wasted any time getting back into football.
In 2010, Bruno Fernandes de Souza confessed to planning the murder of Eliza Samudio, his lover. The model and actress was taken hostage by a gang, tortured, and then executed by being strangled.
In March 2013, after a court heard the evidence against him, Bruno was handed a 22-year jailterm.
At the beginning, Bruno was given a “closed prison sentence,” but that was changed to a “semi-open” sentence in 2019, which allowed him to work during the day as long as he returned back to prison every night.
The 38-year-old was subsequently told that, due to Varginha Prison’s substandard facilities, he could sleep in his own bed as long as he stayed at home from 8p.m. to 6a.m.
After demonstrating his capacity to do so, Bruno was then granted parole by the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro in January.
Bruno was keen to return to football and has now been signed by Sao Paulo side Orion Futebol Clube, who took to social media to announce that they had signed a ‘backup player’.
It remains to be seen how fans react to the news or whether his performances on the pitch prevent a widespread uproar, given that he played for top Brazilian sides Corinthians and Flamengo previously.

What Transpired Between The Brazilian Footballer And His Lover?
The shot-stopper met Samudio at a ‘sex party’ in 2017 and she soon fell pregnant, much to the annoyance of Bruno. He ordered her to have an abortion but the model was keen to have a child – now named Bruninho (Little Bruno).
Samudio threatened to take legal action against Bruno after he refused to claim paternity of the child or pay any support, though Bruno hit back by telling his ex-mistress that he would kill her and that she didn’t know what he was ‘capable of’, whilst she was being held at gunpoint.
Months later, Samudio was lured into a car and driven to Bruno’s home where she was beaten by a gang – which included Bruno’s wife as well as a former policeman.

Following six days of torture, the 25-year-old was then strangled to death in front of her son before being cut into pieces and fed to dogs, according to reports.
Samudio’s disappearance soon hit the media as search parties began trying to find the actress, prompting Bruno’s cousin to hand himself in to the police and explain what had happened and how he was paid by Bruno for his part in the murder.
