Brescia appoint Grosso as Corini’s successor

Brescia have secured the appointment Fabio Grosso as their new coach to succeed Eugenio Corini, who was sacked at the weekend. The former Italy international and 2006 World Cup winner was replaced as boss of Serie A rivals Hellas Verona by Ivan Juric, but remained under contract to the club.
However, with Brescia keen to offer him the managerial position at the Stadio Mario Rigamonti, Grosso has come to an agreement with Hellas Verona President Maurizio Setti to terminate his contract. “Verona have mutually agreed to termite the contract with Fabio Grosso,” Verona wrote in a statement on their official website. “The Gialloblu wish him the best of luck in the future and in his career as a coach.”
Grosso, who turns 42 on November 28, is now free to take over at Brescia with immediate effect as the club are in desperate need of points.
Corini, who spent just under 14 months in the role, was axed after a run of poor results has left third from bottom after 10 games in their first season back in the top division.
His final game in charge was ironically a 2-1 defeat against Grosso’s former club Verona on Sunday.
Grosso, who has also had spells in charge of Juventus youth teams and Serie B side Bari, will take charge for the first time against Torino at home this Saturday.
Meanwhile, Verona have been ordered to close part of their stadium for one game following the racist abuse of Brescia striker Mario Balotelli during Sunday’s game.
