Bruce Buck To Step Down As Chelsea Chairman After 19-year Tenure

Bruce Buck is stepping down from his role as Chelsea chairman, bringing an end to a 19-year tenure which delivered 18 trophies.

The American lawyer, who has been a member of the Blues’ boardroom since 2003, will take on a senior advisory role with the Premier League heavyweights from June 30.

During his tenure, Chelsea has become “one of the world’s elite football clubs and a worldwide recognisable brand watched by millions.”

Why Is Bruce Buck Stepping Down As Chelsea Chairman?

“I am proud to have helped Chelsea realise great success on the pitch and make a positive impact in the community.,” Buck said on the Blues’ official website.

“Now is the right time to step down and let new ownership build on the strong foundations we have in place.

“The owners have a compelling vision for Chelsea’s future, and I look forward to helping them achieve it in this new role alongside our incredible staff, players, coaches and supporters.”

“Bruce has led Chelsea to the highest levels of international and domestic football, while also developing one of the most active social responsibility projects in sport” said Boehly, a co-controlling owner of Chelsea following a takeover in west London that saw Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich sever ties with the club.

Buck’s exit comes at a time when Chelsea is in turmoil, with Guy Laurence stepping down as SEO and director Eugene Tenenbaum sanctioned owing to financial ties with Russia.
