According to Bruno Fernandes, teammate Cristiano Ronaldo should have been given the opening goal in Portugal’s 2-0 World Cup triumph over Uruguay.
In the ninth minute of the second half of the Group H match, Fernandes floated a cross from the left toward Ronaldo as Portugal was being held by a resolute Uruguay.
After evading the offside trap, Ronaldo rose to meet the ball as it nestled in the far corner, setting off a jubilant celebration from the former Manchester United forward.
However, the stadium announcer gave the goal to Fernandes, causing a smile from Ronaldo, and FIFA.
After some delay, the goal was eventually credited to Bruno Fernandes, with video replays seeming to show Ronaldo hadn’t got a touch.
Fernandes, however, saw it the other way.
“I don’t think it really matters who scored the goal at this point,” Fernandes, who got a second from the spot late on, said.
The Portuguese Federation are going to present evidence to FIFA to prove that the first goal against Uruguay was Cristiano Ronaldo’s NOT Bruno Fernandes’

“The feeling I had at the time was that Cristiano touched the ball. I was passing the ball to him.
“But the important thing was that we won tonight against a very tough opponent.
“The importance of us being first in the group includes us winning the next game, which would allow us to come out of the group undefeated. That is what we want.
“We have a very organised team ahead of us on Friday, and our objective is to take it match by match.”
