Chris Wood is a doubt for Burnley’s Premier League home game against Chelsea on Saturday night after suffering a hamstring problem. The selection of Wood, Burnley’s joint-top scorer this season with four Premier League goals, will be based on whether the New Zealand international can train on Friday.
Clarets boss Sean Dyche said on Thursday: “Woody has a tight hamstring and we are going to have to make a judgement call on that but we will know further tomorrow. We will see if people do pull through their injuries in time.”
Dyche is hoping for a double injury boost ahead of Chelsea’s visit to Turf Moor, with Ashley Barnes and Jack Cork looking increasingly likely to be part of his plans after both trained on Thursday.
Barnes – Burnley’s other joint-top scorer – missed last Saturday’s defeat to Leicester City because of a tight groin, while Cork has been absent from the last two games as a result of a minor fracture to his shoulder blade.
However, wide midfielder Johann Berg Gudmundsson (hamstring) and central midfielder Danny Drinkwater (ankle) remain unavailable.
The on-loan Chelsea man is prevented from playing against his parent club anyway this weekend although Dyche is optimistic of having him up and running soon. “We are hoping that by next week he will be joining in with the first team so he needs that because it has been a bit of time now,” the boss added.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has revealed N’Golo Kante and Ross Barkley are doubts after being ruled out of the Blues’ midweek Champions League win over Ajax.
French World Cup winner Kante missed Saturday’s 1-0 win at home to Newcastle United, while Barkley started that game but hobbled off shortly before half-time with what appeared to be an ankle injury.
Antonio Rudiger has been nursing an injury and didn’t travel with the rest of the Chelsea squad to Amsterdam.
When asked to provide an update on the German centre-back , Lampard ruled Rudiger out of contention for this weekend but said he hoped to have him back soon.
