Burton Albion 1-3 Leicester City

Leicester booked their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with a 3-1 win against League One Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium. Burton boss Nigel Clough made two changes from their home draw with Blackpool at the weekend, as Lucas Akins dropped out for Liam Boyce and Richard Nartey for Reece Hutchinson.
Youri Tielemans and Jonny Evans were the only two players to start for Leicester from Friday’s 9-0 win at Southampton as boss Brendan Rodgers made nine changes.
Kalechi Iheanacho, looking for just his second Leicester goal since last September, went close in the fourth minute but dragged his shot wide of the mark.
However, the former Manchester City forward was not to be denied on seven minutes when the Foxes carved the Bewers open on the break with Tielemans unselfishly teed up Iheanacho to tuck the ball home inside the box.
It was 2-0 in the 20th minute when another quick counter-attack saw Dennis Praet pull the ball back into the path of Tielemans from the right and he slotted into the bottom corner from the middle of the area.
Burton had a couple of efforts late in the half but Danny Ward got down well and denied Nathan Broadhead, before John-Joe O’Toole fired just wide.
Praet was inches away from a third for the visitors on 47 minutes but watched as his right-foot effort roll just wide of the far post.
However, Leicester’s grip on the game loosened on 52 minutes when they failed to clear their lines and Boyce’s effort from the edge of the area somehow evaded Ward and flew into the far corner.
Burton went close to equalising but Oliver Sarkic watched as his header from a corner was cleared off the line by Wes Morgan.
Leicester responded on the hour as Marc Albrighton pounced on some slack Burton defending and raced into the area only to be denied by Kieran O’Hara, before he put the rebound into the side-netting.
On 69 minutes, Albrighton again got in down the right of the Burton area, but with the angle narrowing, his effort was blocked by the legs of O’Hara.
Harvey Barnes thought he had sealed the tie on 77 minutes when he diverted a Demarai Gray cross from the right into the net from six yards only for the offside flag to deny him.
Sarkic wasted a great chance to level five minutes from time when he wasted up on the right of the area but skied his angled drive over the top.
The Foxes finally settled the tie in the 89th minute when Gray cut in from the right and put the ball on a plate for substitute James Maddison to hit a right-foot effort past O’Hara.
