Buruj Sports Academy open their campaign at the West African U-19 Football Tournament (Frank Peters Cup) with a 2-1 loss to Club De Soccer Talent at the Ijebu Ode Stadium on Sunday morning.
The Lagos-based side came into the game very brightly and showed signs of getting all three points but they were undone by defensive errors at the back which led to two penalty kicks being awarded against them.
However goalkeeper Lucky Friday was up to the task as he pulled off two outstanding saves to deny their opponents from going in front.
However, he was not too lucky to save his team from going down as they conceded two quick goals before scoring a consolation to end the game 2-1.
In his post-match reaction, CEO of Buruj Dr Salaudeen Waheed commended the boys for a job well done and revealed that the good performance of goalkeeper Friday has not gone unnoticed by the organizers.
“It was a good experience for our players and I am sure that both the players and the coaches have learned from that. In our next match, I am sure that our fans will see a better team. Our goalkeeper is already penciled down by the organizers and I think this is a good development for the game in Nigeria.”
Buruj Academy’s next game is against Jay 1 Academy at the Pitch B of the Ijebu Ode Stadium on Tuesday 15 November, 2016 at 8.30am while the final group game comes up at the same venue on Wednesday 16th November at 2pm against Utility Sports.
