Buruj hold Sport Utility to 2-2 draw in West African U-19 Tourney

Lagos-based Buruj Sports Academy on Wednesday afternoon were forced to a 2-2 draw by Utility Sports in the final group game of the West African U-19 Tournament, also known as the Frank Peters Cup, at the Pitch B of the Ijebu Ode Stadium.

Dim Chinonso scored in both halves to give Buruj a two-goal lead but a lapse in concentration saw Utility Sports edge back into the game with a goal off a goalmouth scramble before Adam Ilelaboye’s error gifted them a last minute equalizer to end the game in a draw.

Buruj Sport Academy started the competition on a sour note when they lost their opening group game 2-1 to
Club De Soccer Talent at the Ijebu Ode Stadium before putting their campaign back on track with a 1-0 win over hard-fighting Jay 1 Academy on Tuesday morning.

Jamiu Olasunkanmi was the hero of the day as he got the only goal of the game in the second half.

Buruj Academy amassed a total of four points from three games and will standby to know their opponents in the next round of the competition.

Salaudeen Waheed, CEO of Buruj Sport Academy, expressed his satisfaction with the performance of the boys and claimed that each game played so far represented a different kind of experience for the boys and they have learned very valuable lessons.

“Sometimes it is not all about winning. You learn lessons even when you lose or draw games and I’m sure the boys have learnt something new today about the different kind of circumstances under which they may have to play. Mistakes have been made and it is the job of the coaches to correct those mistakes. We are using this competition to prepare for bigger challenges so we are happy to be here,” he said.
