Juventus midfielder Emre Can is reportedly open to move to Manchester United in January. The Germany international made the switch to the Allianz Stadium at the beginning of last season after allowing his Liverpool contract to run down.
His career at Juventus got off to a good and by the end of last season he had made 37 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals.
The 25-year-old’s exploits helped the Old Lady retain the Serie A title for an eighth consecutive season after they finished 11 points clear of Napoli.
However, Max Allegri departed at the end of the season after five successful years and he was replaced by outgoing Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri.
Sarri’s arrival, coupled with the addition of Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot to midfield, has seen Can pushed down the pecking order and he has only played 78 minutes of football all season.
He was also omitted from the club’s Champions League squad for the group stage of the competition.
Those Serie A minutes have come via three substitute appearances and reports claim Can’s agent is touting his client to various clubs where he would get more football.
Manchester United are thought to be interested in signing Can and the midfielder is apparently keen on moving to Old Trafford.
United are still very much under renovation with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanting to bring in younger players without huge reputations.
Can would fit that bracket given he has generally been overshadowed at Juve in midfield by Blaise Matuidi and Miralem Pjanic.
He would join a select group of players including Paul Ince and Michael Owen if he were to join Manchester United as he has already represented big rivals Liverpool.
Can made 166 appearances for the Anfield outfit in four years, scoring 14 goals, including a stunning overhead kick which won the goal-of-the-season award in the 2016-17 campaign.
The Reds were keen to keep Can at the club although a new contract could not be agreed and he departed for Juventus in the summer of 2018.
No fee has been mentioned in the report for Can’s transfer but it is expected United would need to pay a hefty sum as two-and-a-half years remain on his contract.
