Real Madrid are in the unusual position of having Cristiano Ronaldo pose their biggest problem, according to Fabio Capello.
The Portuguese talisman is not firing on all cylinders and his inconsistency is characterising the patchy form of his team.
This is the view of former Real boss Capello who thinks Ronaldo is not his usual self after missing the start of the campaign through injury.
The Italian veteran told Onda Cero: ‘The problem for Real Madrid now is Cristiano Ronaldo, because he is not well physically and is their best player.’
The striker has led his club with fantastic output in terms of goals and work rate over the past few seasons but has not made his usual impact so far this campaign.
The most obvious explanation seems to be that Ronaldo has not fully recovered from the knee injury suffered in the final of Euro 2016.
He was forced to leave the pitch after a Dimitri Payet challenge damaged his knee, though Ronaldo was offered the consolation of watching Portugal go on to claim victory.
Real on the other hand have failed to earn three points in four successive matches, having drawn all of them, most recently to Eibar.
Capello believes that once Ronaldo is back to full fitness, Zinedine Zidane’s side will see an upturn in their fortunes.
