Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher lauds Alisson Becker for his impressive display for Liverpool as they lost to Real Madrid on Wednesday night in the UEFA Champions League.
The Anfield icon told CBS Sports on Paramount+ that “Alisson kept Liverpool in it.” Before Karim Benzema netted the game’s lone goal. And gave Carlo Ancelotti’s team a 6-2 victory over Jurgen Klopp’s team on aggregate.
Reds went to the Santiago Bernabeu hoping for an unlikely Madrid turnaround. But they left Spain even more dejected. As they failed to score against the side that defeated them in the Champions League final the previous year.
In reality, Liverpool were just 180 minutes away from pulling off the unbelievable (final against Madrid and final league game of the season). This is just a year ago when they were vying for all four titles.
But moving forward to the present, many are still shocked by Liverpool’s decline, particularly when compared to Real Madrid, who are only getting better.

“Alisson, he kept Liverpool in it,” said Carragher. “He made some great saves.
“From my point of view, I knew the game was gone. I just wanted to Liverpool to not lose the game and maybe nick the game 1-0. And have a slight feel-good factor.”
Alisson, who earns around £150,000 per week, is one of the few Liverpool players who can keep their heads up this season. At the conclusion of the season, Alisson is likely to be named the club’s Player of the Year.
Liverpool will have one more fight in them as they battle for fourth place at the end of the season. Which would be a huge relief given the sort of season they have had.
