Carragher: Conte should sign Chiellini and Bonucci for Chelsea

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes incoming Chelsea manager Antonio Conte should target Juventus‘ defensive rocks Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci this summer.

The duo were in fine form for Italy during the 2-0 win over Belgium in their Euro 2016 Group E opening game tonight with Bonucci claiming the assist for
Emanuele Giaccherini’s goal in the first-half with a brilliant long-range pass.

Defensively, not for the first time when they’ve been paired together, they were superb and Carragher acknowledged their performances with a message via his official Twitter account shortly following the final whistle.

Much of the pre-game talk surrounded the Red Devils attacking options, yet the likes of Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne rarely had a sniff at goal, while striker Romelu Lukaku, who netted 18 Premier League goals for Everton this season, fluffed his lines when clean through.

With Conte set to take over at Stamford Bridge once Italy’s involvement at the tournament is over, Blues supporters will certainly agree with Carragher’s comments regarding attempting to sign at least one of the two defenders.

Club captain John Terry signed a new deal towards the end of last season, although he’s unlikely to be a regular in the side next year and a move to bring either Chiellini or Bonucci to the club would allow Conte to build upon a solid platform in his debut campaign in English football.
