Carragher Feels Arsenal Can Challenge Man City For Champions League Glory

Jamie Carragher believes Arsenal can mount a challenge at winning the UEFA Champions League this season, and claims the Gunners are better than Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

For the first time in six years, the Gunners are back among Europe’s elite teams. They advanced easily to the round of 16 as group winners over PSV Eindhoven, Lens, and Sevilla.

The young Gunners team, led by Mikel Arteta, will play their first of two knockout matches against Portuguese giants, Porto next week. And former Liverpool defender Carragher maintains they can advance further in the competition.

Last season, Manchester City won the Premier League title over Arsenal. Making history as the first team to win the Treble and become English champions for a record third consecutive season.

Superstars led by Pep Guardiola are clearly favorites to win Europe’s top prize once more this campaign. But if the two teams play each other, Carragher believes Arsenal have a chance to overcome the defending champions.

“I actually think the team who could maybe have a chance against Manchester City in the Champions League is Arsenal,” Jamie Carragher told the Stick to Football podcast as reported by Daily Mail.

“Because this Arsenal team hasn’t won anything big yet, we’re still thinking ‘How good are they?’.

“Then you go and watch the Champions League, and I’m watching Bayern Munich, a massive team – Arsenal are better than Bayern Munich, and I think Arsenal will beat Paris Saint-Germain.

“I’m looking at the Champions League thinking who could stop City – and I’m thinking probably Arsenal. If they met each other, we know that City would be massive favourites,” he added.
