Cascarino: Hazard is playing for himself, not Chelsea

Eden Hazard is one of three or four Chelsea players who are playing for themselves, former striker Tony Cascarino insists.

The Belgium international was well below-par in the Blues’ defence of the Premier League title last season as he failed to maintain the standard from the year before that saw him crowned as the 2015 PFA Player of the Year.

At the start of the current campaign, the 25-year-old looked to be recapturing his best form after netting twice in three appearances, but Cascarino believes the winger is one of a few players at the club that are simply not interested in helping the team.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the pundit said: “There are a few Chelsea players who are playing for themselves. They are more interested in how they play but it is not helping the team.

“You can certainly accuse two or three. Hazard would fall into that bracket.

“We all know how good he is and how good he can be but I would say he is one of the players who did not follow instructions at the weekend.

“There were probably two or three others and you only need two or three others. Then your team is finished. You are going to get beat.”

Hazard – who earns a reported £200,000-per-week – started the 3-0 defeat by London rivals Arsenal at the weekend but was substituted with 70 minutes on the clock after producing a rather subdued performance at the Emirates Stadium.

He created just one chance and completed 50% of his attempted take-ons on a miserable evening for all those connected with the west London outfit.
