Petr Cech delivered a bleak assessment of Arsenal‘s Premier League title chances now, believing they need to “win pretty much every game” to keep their hopes alive.
After making a blistering start to the season, Arsenal’s form has taken an alarming dip in the last two months, winning just four of their previous nine Premier League games. To make matters even worse, they suffered two damaging defeats in the space of four days, leaving their title challenge in tatters.
Arsene Wenger’s men lost 2-1 to Watford at the Emirates last Tuesday, before succumbing to a 3-1 defeat at Chelsea on Saturday afternoon. Goals from Marcos Alonso, Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas secured the result for the Blues, while Olivier Giroud grabbed an injury-time consolation.
The Gunners are now in a precarious position, with Cech admitting they need to put a winning run together to stand any chance of lifting the title.
“We are still mathematically in but obviously we are a long way behind,” the 34-year-old said (via the club’s official website). “We need to make sure that we win our next games and we need to now win pretty much every game if we want to hope, so let’s see how we go.”
Cech has kept seven clean sheets and averaged 2.38 saves-per-game in 24 Premier League appearances this season, with an average claim success of 99%, as Arsenal sit fourth on 47 points, 12 behind leaders Chelsea.
Next up for them is a home clash with Hull City on Saturday,
