Aaron Ramsey says he celebrated his goal by shushing the Tottenham fans as a way of responding to the abuse he was receiving from the home crowd at White Hart Lane.
It was thrilling encounter when Arsenal travelled to Spurs for Saturday’s North London Derby. The opening stages were cagey until Ramsey broke the deadlock with an audacious flick past Hugo Loris just before half time.
The Welshman then unashamedly celebrated in front of the subdued home support with his finger to his lips.
Speaking on the celebration in the aftermath of the game (via the club’s official website), Ramsey said: “I was getting a lot of stick on the side so when it goes against them it’s good to give it back to them sometimes.”
“In the end, I was fully concentrated on the end and I was happy to score my goal.”
It looked bleak for the Gunners when Francis Coquelin received a second yellow card for a rash challenge on Harry Kane 10 minutes into the second half.
Spurs then equalised through Toby Alderweireld on the hour mark before Harry Kane scored a stunning curled effort to give them the lead just two minutes later.
Fortunately for Arsene Wenger, his team did not give up and Alexis Sanchez drew them level 14 minutes from time and they held on for the game to finish 2-2.
Mauricio Pochettino’s team, who had a whopping 26 shots on goal, will surely see this opportunity missed. The draw,
however, leaves them still three points ahead of their fierce rivals.
