Chelsea have agreed a staggering new kit deal with Nike worth £60 million a year, after ending their current contract with Adidas six years early.
The Blues, who finished 10th in the Premier League this season, paid £40m in compensation to end their £300m partnership with Adidas last week.
However, according to the Telegraph, they have now landed Nike’s second-most lucrative sponsorship deal despite failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
It puts Chelsea in an elite bracket in terms of revenue but the Blues still fall behind Manchester United, who agreed to a ten-year deal worth £750m with Adidas just over a year ago while Real Madrid earn £106m per year with the same company – a deal they negotiated earlier this year.
Closer to home, though, Chelsea’s new kit deal is twice as much as Arsenal earn from Puma and three times as much as Manchester City make with their partner, Nike.
It is the latest of many big-money moves by the Blues after recently signing a £40m-a-year deal with Yokohama, who will remain their main shirt sponsor, and a £10m training kit deal with Carabao.
Chelsea’s new boss, Antonio Conte, will hope the added revenue from such deals can be used in the transfer market this summer as he bids to get the Blues back into the Champions League.
