Chelsea, Barcelona Eyeing Brazilian Wonderkid Dubbed The ‘New Marcelo’

Chelsea and Barcelona are reportedly plotting a potential move for Santos sensational teenager, Joao Victor de Souza, who has been compared with Real Madrid legend, Marcelo.

After making an impression for Santos, the gifted 18-year-old is quickly gaining a lot of recognition, and it appears that elite clubs in Europe are beginning to pay attention.

According to AS as reported by Caught Offside, Chelsea and Barcelona appear to be the teams most interested in Souza right now. He may also be able to move to Saudi Arabia as there are clubs also lining up for him in the middle Eastern country.

Brazilian football supporters will be hopeful that Souza can eventually prove to be the nation’s long-term option at left-back, since his style of play seems to be invoking comparisons to Marcelo.

In addition to winning the Champions League five times while he was at the Bernabeu, Marcelo had an incredible career at the top level.

Souza will have done well for himself if he can have a career that is anything close to the 36-year-old’s more than 50 caps for the Brazilian national team.

With their current owners placing a strong emphasis on creating a long-term project rather than merely acquiring ready-made superstars, Chelsea have done well in recent years to acquire the best young players from across the world.

According to AS, the Blues may initially send Souza to one of their other affiliated clubs, such Ligue 1 team Strasbourg, because he might be a good fit to the system over there in France.
